After work, it was still relatively nice outside, so I took Sergeant Margie over to WPA Rock Garden for a short walk before heading back home. We saw a handful of neat bugs and some pretty flowers. I also found a plant that had about a half dozen cicada “skins” attached to it. They were really close to the ground, which I thought was odd. They must’ve crawled out of their hidey-holes onto that plant and then shed their old skin before climbing into the trees with their shiny new skin on, and singing. While I was photographing a big leaf-footed bug, an older lady came up to me and started asking me questions about Sergeant Margie. She wanted to know what kind of dog he was, how old he was, how many times I had groom him… She was thinking of getting a small companion dog but didn’t want a high-maintenance “yapper”. While we were talking, Sergeant Margie sat down on the garden path next to me and listened to us. He’d look at the lady when she addressed him, and opened his mouth to “smile”, being his cute self. She asked me where I got him, and I told her he was a gift, but if she wanted a well-trained small dog she should call the Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary, as they’re starting a dog program and have some really cute little guys available right now. So, who knows, along with our exercise today, we might’ve also gotten someone to save a shelter dog this week…
