I got up around 6:30 this morning and was out the door with Sergeant Margie to go for our walk through the William Land Park within about 10 minutes. Yesterday, the park was overrun by people at the “Banana Festival” and there was trash everywhere, which was really depressing. My spirits were a little boosted though when we came across a large katydid, some bug eggs, and several different praying mantises (both tan and green)… Nature perseveres. The Maypop passion flowers were also in bloom; I don’t get to see them very often so it’s always fun when I can get some photos of them. The oak trees are all getting acorns on them, including the big bur oaks (Quercus macrocarpa)… I also found the gall of the aptly named Fuzzy Oak Gall wasp (Andricus quercusflocci). We walked for about 2 hours and then headed back home.
