Met My Nephew at William Land Park

Both my brother and I slept in a bit today.  I got up around 7:30 (he didn’t get up until around 9:00).  I went over to the WPA Rock Garden and William Land Park this morning for my walk with the dog.  I knew there was going to be a Freethought Fair going on there today (the 12th annual one) and was torn between wanting to say “hi” to my nephew Richard, who was going to be at one of the tables there, and wanting to avoid the crowd that was expected.  I walked Sergeant Margie through the garden and around the duck pond, just as folks were arriving to set up for the fair, and then after walking for about 90 minutes, I got into my car to head out.

As I was driving out of the parking lot, Richard arrived with several of his colleagues.  He walked right in front of my car and I called to him, but he didn’t acknowledge me, so I pulled up right next to him and honked my horn.  He stopped to try figure out why someone was honking, and I rolled down my car window and said, “Say hello to your aunt!”  He was flabbergasted; he hadn’t expected to see me.  He apologized for not responding when I called out his name; he said he has people he doesn’t know calling to him and coming up to him all the time.  Hah!  I found a place to park my car again, and then went back into the park to watch him set up and take some photos of him to post for his wife and mom on Facebook.  He told me to send them some photos of the park, too, so they could see it, so I took a few extra photos for that purpose, too.  Funny thing: as we were standing out in front of the amphitheater I looked up and noticed a huge flock of vultures circling overhead. Yikes!  I hope that wasn’t an “omen” or something.  Hah!
