At the Park After Work

After work, it was actually pretty outside: sunny and cool.  So, I took the dog over to William Land Park and we walked around the big pond there for about an hour.  I got some photos of the Mallards and Canada Geese, but also got some shots of a pair of Wood Ducks, a Buff Orpington Duck, a Western Pond Turtle and – a new find for me: a Plumbeous Vireo, a very tiny grey bird.  While I was walking, a group of people sitting by the pond asked what “those weird bird with the red stuff on their face” were, and I told them they were Muscovy Ducks and that the red modeling on their faces was normal for them. One of the women in the group said she’d thought they were some kind of mutant goose-duck hybrid or something.  Hah!
