Today after work, I stopped off along Desmond Road to see if – in the overcast and fog – there was anything to photograph. I saw the Red-Shouldered Hawk again, but also got glimpses of a Kite and a Ferruginous Hawk along the side of the road. By the time I found a place to pull over and park and get my camera out, they were gone. Dang it! I got some good photos of a Great Egret who was standing near one of the pathways, dressed in his mating regalia (extra-long feathers down his back), and some Northern Shoveler ducks. I also got one shot of some raptors: they were too far away to get a decent picture, and all I could see from my vantage point was the hunkered-down silhouette of a vulture. When I got my camera home, though and looked at the shot, it was vulture with two hawks near it. One of the hawks had gotten hold of something, and the vulture and smaller hawk were standing by. Wish I had a better telephoto lens!
