A Brief Walk on Tuesday at William Land Park

After work, I took the dog for a walk around the middle pond at the William Land Park.  It was still overcast and a little chilly, but it wasn’t raining.  When we got there, I was surprised to find a trio of Wester Bluebirds  — 2 males and a female – squawking at each other in the trees.  Male Western Bluebirds are very territorial, but I’ve never witnessed them fighting over a female before.  It was kind of cool.  Then I watched some Golden-Crowned Sparrows fill up on hawthorn berries.  At the pond there were a few new ducks I hadn’t seen before – hybrids.  One was especially pretty, with a dark body and white head.  I think she was a young Muscovy duck.  And there was a super horny duck that kept trying to mount a female that was bigger than he was… It was so funny.  When he wasn’t rolling off of her, she and another male were pulling him off of her.  He was so persistent.  I couldn’t help but chuckle as I watched him.
