Bruceville and Desmond Roads

These roads are adjacent to and comprises parts of the Cosumnes River Preserve and its agricultural lands. Sometimes, you see more of a variety of waterfowl and songbirds here than you do in the designated preserve areas itself. The fields are a favorite of the Sandhill Cranes in the late winter and early spring.

  • Pet Friendly? Sort of. Leave your pet n your vehicle or on a leash
  • Easy to Walk? Yes.
  • Is there a Fee? No.
  • Are there Restrooms? No.
  • Is there Accessible Parking? Sort of. You’ll need to pull off to the side of the road where you do not impede traffic.
  • Other Notes: The lands along the side of the road are private property. Pay attention to the signage and do not trespass.

There are also many oak trees along the road, and in the summer months they provide a wide variety of galls to look at.

Also make sure to check the fennel plants along the roads for the caterpillars of the Anise Swallowtail Butterflies.

How to Get There:

  • From Sacramento
  • Take Interstate 5 (I-5) South
  • Take Exit 498 for Twin Cities Road
  • Continue on Twin Cities Rd. Drive to Bruceville Rd
  • Turn RIGHT onto Bruceville Road and follow it to Desmond Road
  • Drive s-l-o-w-l-y along the roads and watch for wildlife and wildflowers, then park where you’re able to take photographs.
