The first time I went to this park in Placer County was in late August of 2019, so I wasn’t seeing it at its fullest potential. Still, I found it to be a great spot to find a lot of different kinds of galls because of the variety of oak trees and other trees and plants on the 132-acre grounds.
• Easy to Locate? Yes
• Pet Friendly? Yes. Dogs MUST be on a leash outside of the RUFF dog park
• Easy to Walk? Yes. Paved walkways and well-maintained trails. Zero to very little elevation gain.
• Is there a Fee? No
• Are there Restrooms? Yes. At the main entrance to the park
• Is there Accessible Parking? Yes.
• Other Notes: Lots of different species of oak trees means lots of different galls in the summer months. Most of the trees are tagged
“heritage” oaks and they follow along the side of Antelope Creek.
See my FLICKR account for more albums of photos taken at this location throughout the last several months.
The park is very “manicured” in the front portion of it with a playground area for kids, the RUFF dog park, a skate park rink, tennis courts, volleyball sand pit and a disk-golf course on one side. I’m not much for manicured parks, but I still found this one exceptional.
The back side of the park was more to my liking. It’s more “rugged” looking with a large field, a seasonal creek, and the huge stand of different kinds of oak trees, willows, and other trees/shrubs. The trails are well maintain and easy to maneuver, and there’s little elevation gain which provides a great low-impact walk for just about everyone.
There is ample parking, and restroom facilities, and a picnic area. This park pretty much has it all.
