Historic Old City Cemetery, Sacramento

The Historic Old City Cemetery in downtown Sacramento is a lovely mix of tombstones, mausoleums, monumental statues, private plots, and well-kept gardens which include a perennial garden, Japanese garden, rose garden and native plants garden.

Easy to Locate? Yes
Pet Friendly? Yes. Dogs MUST be on a leash.
Easy to Walk? Yes. All of the paths in the cemetery are paved and well-maintained.
Is there a Fee? No, but donations are always welcome.
Are there Restrooms? Yes. In the small building near the front gate.
Is there Accessible Parking? Yes, but it’s VERY limited. Park across the street in the County parking lot.
Other Notes: In the spring, there are literally thousands of roses in bloom and hundreds of irises and other flowering plants. The gardens are also host to over 60 different kinds of native bees.

You can schedule a tour with a cemetery docent, or walk along on a self-guided tour by yourself.

How to Get to the Cemetery:

The cemetery is located on Broadway, between Muir Way and Riverside Blvd., in downtown Sacramento at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento, CA 95818.  

When you’re on Broadway, you can’t miss it.  The whole thing is surrounded by massive wrought-iron fencing and gates, and some of the statuary is “monolithic”.  You can park right across the street from it in the County parking lot. Hours and more information is available HERE.
